2000-2001’s Annual Report for China’s IT

Application and Service Market of

Transportation Industry

(Abstract)

Viewpoint

1. The total volume of the IT products and service applications market in China's transportation industry reached 6.6 billion RMB in 2000. During the tenth Five Year planning, with the increasing of construction investment for the basic establishment of national traffic and translation, the demand of the transportation industry for IT products and service will keep growing.

2. Future demands of the transportation industry for IT products will transform from hardware to software application, services, technologies and products, such as e-commerce, intermediate products, CRM, information security.

3. The IT products presently used by the transportation industry are composed mostly of foreign ones. Foreign products occupy more than 60% of the application market for servers and network products.  However, domestic IT products are making an entrance into the transportation industry.

4. Service has gradually become a more important factor for transportation industry enterprise consumers when choosing products and system integrators.

c. Charge system

Chapter Highlights

This chapter has analyzed in detail the market structure for application of IT technology to the transportation industry (Railroad, civil aviation and speedway). Among the eight subsystems of railway management information system (TMIS), six have come into use. The stalking system of containers has entered into the stage of test operation; the truck real time stalking system has been put into operation. As for a system to sell railroad tickets across the entire country, there already exist about one thousand ticket selling stations. Civil aviation has initially formed developmental pattern based on China's Civil Aviation commerce data network, and to support the three systems of booking, departing and carrying. Speedway has already created a half self-motion charge system, and some speedways have established supervision and communication centers. This chapter also analyzed in detail other application of IT system in transportation.

III. Market structure for IT products in the railroad transportation industry in 2000

1. Market Structure for IT products in the railroad transportation

industry

a. Number of IT products retained and in stock in 2000

b. Distribution of different models of IT products

2. Market structure for applications of IT products to civil aviation

a. Number of IT products retained and in stock in 2000

b. Distribution of different models of IT products

3. Market structure for applications of IT products to Speedway

a. Number of IT products retained and in stock in 2000

b. Distribution of different models of IT products

Chapter Highlights

This chapter has researched and analyzed the number of IT products retained, the distribution of makes and numbers in stock in the railroad, civil aviation and speedway industries. By the end of 2000, railroad and civil aviation processed a significant number of IT products. Foreign products have definite advantages in the transportation industry IT products market. Compared with 1999-2000, the number of IT products in stock in the railroad and civil aviation industries experienced no considerable change, while the number of IT products in stock in the speedway continues to grow.

IV. Market Structure for IT service for the transportation industry

1. Manufacturer's service structure

2. System integrator’s service structure

Chapter Highlights

With the growth of networks, manufacturer’s service systems have transformed into a new service model, with the principle goal being to provide solutions. System integrators no longer simply provide software and hardware combinations, but now pay more attention to providing solutions designed for applications in the transportation industry.

V. Development of IT products and services in the transportation industry 2001-2003

1. Important factors influencing IT applications and services in the transportation industry

a. Great exploitation of the West

b. Challenge of WTO

c. Competition in the Transportation Industry

2. Development of IT technology applications in the transportation industry

a. Development of IT applications in railroad

b. Development of IT applications in civil aviation

c. Development of IT applications in speedway

3. Development of the transportation industry IT technology applications market

a. Development of the transportation industry computer and network applications market

b. Development of the transportation industry software applications market

4. Development of the transportation industry IT service market

a. Manufacturer's service

b. System integrators

5. Quantitative forecast of the volume of the transportation industry IT application and service market

Chapter Highlights

Using analysis of the transportation industry IT application and service market, this chapter has analyzed and forecasted the development of IT technology, IT products application and IT service in the transportation industry. Recently, the major information implementation projects in railroads includes TMIS, regulation conduction management information system (DIMS), self-motion car number recognition, PMIS, general office automation, railroad cost calculating system and so on. Application of e-commerce is an example of potential information technology applications in the future. By continually improving and unifying two specialized networks, the civil aviation industry will speed up the global distribution system (GDS). Charge for speedway is also a center of application for information technology in the speedway.
